5 Easy Ways to Save Cash on a Date

Is your budget tight, but you still want to go out with that special someone on Friday night?  It’s hard to do that without spending all of your hard earned cash.  Here are some great tips that can help you date on a budget.

Tip 1: Go Back to Nature

Anything that involves nature is usually budget-friendly.  Take your date out on a meadow hike with a picnic, or go swimming, biking, or golfing as an unusual date.  If those seem like chores to you rather than a date, there are so many other natural options available.

Surfing can be a budget friendly day out.  Ask a few friends if you can borrow their boards, and head out to the sea.  You can look online for great beginner spots.  Pack a lunch and eat it on the beach.  You’ll definitely need to shower and rest afterwards, which can be a great ending to a date.

Tip 2: Make a Home-Cooked Dinner

Be a culinary artist.  One thing to remember about budget-friendly dates is to make sure you don’t look cheap.  A great way to be intimate and save money is to learn how to cook.  You can get great free recipes online, and buying food at your local grocery store is ten times cheaper than eating out.  Stay in and dine in.  Get some candles and a movie rental and make it romantic.  Cooking together is one of my favorite dates, even when I have the budget to go out!

Tip 3: Explore Your Local Town or City

Most people love to explore.  Going out to a new area of your town you may have not thought to visit before is exciting.  Instead of taking your date out to an expensive show and dinner, try checking out a college drama performance or a small comedy club.  Most of these places are free.  Depending on how mischievous your date is, you can sneak in some wine or other alcohol to make it even more exciting.

Other exciting, budget friendly dates in your area can be visiting local art shows.  Most people think of art shows as pretentious and boring, but I’m not talking about baroque paintings.  Art shows can be glass blowing conventions, expressionist sculptures, graffiti or tattoo expos, etc.  It is also easy on the budget.  There should be plenty of expos like this all year round near you.

Tip 4: Support Your Local Team

If you love sports, don’t go see the pros.  Baseball, basketball, and football (plus all other sports) are great date nights.  However, they can easily burn a hole through your pocket and destroy your budget.  You can save hundreds of dollars by going to a minor league sports event.  Any city will have sporting events all year round, with ticket costs from free to $15.  Plus, most places let you bring your own snacks and drinks – unheard of at the big, money-grubbing pro stadiums.

Tip 5: Plan a Date Using Groupon

This is my favorite budget date: Groupon.  No, I don’t work for them, or represent them in any way.  Groupon is a website that has one daily deal in a city near you.  From ice-skating to massages to hot air balloon trips, you usually save over 50% on any event they advertise.

The great thing about Groupon (besides budget friendly dates) is that they offer something new every day!  There are plenty of sites like Groupon such as LivingSocial, BuyWithMe, and RetailMeNot.  I have gotten great deals on hotels, wine tastings, whale watching, even miniature golfing on these sites at very low budget prices.

So, next time you want to take that special someone out without busting your budget, use these tips and have a great time.  A great date should be about connecting with your partner and enjoying time together – there is no need to go broke at the same time!
