How Much Money Do Structural Engineers Get Paid?

Structural engineers are responsible for engineering design and analysis of buildings, which means that they know how to build large, impressive structures, such as buildings and bridges.  They know what is going to work and why.  It is a demanding job that requires a lot of schooling and a great grasp of math, and even physics.

Structural engineering isn’t for everyone, but those who love architecture and who want to make a decent living when they are out of school might find that it is an ideal career path to follow.

Many who are considering entering the field want to know if structural engineers make a lot of money.  This is a difficult question to answer because there are so many variables.  Some engineers can make upwards of $100,000 per year in some cases.  The starting salaries are generally lower, but it all depends up on where in the country you decide to work, and how much practical experience your have under your belt.

Like many careers, the amount structural engineers make is going to depend up on their geographic location and their willingness to relocate.  You can find some high paying jobs that are permanent, as well as one-time jobs.  After those one time jobs, if you aren’t part of a firm or design team, you will need to keep looking for work.

You might also want to consider working for the government.  However, you will generally find that working in the private sector is going to be more financially rewarding in the long run.
