How to Finance a Trip to the Emergency Room

Financing should not be among your concerns if you need to go to the emergency room. These facilities, as the name clearly suggests, are intended for people with life-threatening, emergency conditions that require immediate care.

Unfortunately, financing will not be an issue you can address beforehand when something like this happens to you. Your only real option where financing is concerned is to have some sort of insurance that will help foot the bill. If you live in the United States then that bill, be very certain, will be large.

Financing a trip to the emergency room through a simple insurance program is usually the only realistic way to avoid being buried in bills. Even if you don’t have insurance, there are usually fairly inexpensive plans out there that you can get. The amount of financing they’ll offer, however, will depend upon your health and lifestyle. If you’re a professional fitness instructor, your rates will probably be low. If you stunt-drive motorcycles and smoke three packs a day, don’t expect any discounts on this, or any other, type of medical financing.

If you’re really in a bind, financing a visit to the emergency room may require some creativity. You may be able to pay on your credit card, but the high interest rates will make your bill much higher. You may also be able to get financing through the hospital, but they usually just send bills to collection agencies very quickly. Financing for ER visits, unfortunately, really relies on how much money you have to start with and how much insurance you can afford to carry rather than any sort of predetermined financing options. Creating a family emergency fun and contributing whatever you can afford each month may in the end be the only practical solution, should you not be able to afford health insurance.
