What’s the Buzz About the Unemployment Extension?

If you have been following the news recently, you likely know that President Obama has recently extended unemployment benefits again.  It is understandable from one point of view, as many people have been out of work for prolonged amounts of time due to the economic crisis, but not everyone is pleased with these extensions.

As with all programs like this, there are many people who are simply taking advantage of the system, and it is the taxpayers who in part are taking the hit.

While the Obama unemployment extension did not extend benefits for the so-called 99ers, or those who have extinguished all of their benefits, it did provide an extension for a vast number of people who are currently collecting unemployment.  Unfortunately, the funds used to make these payments are now coming largely from the pockets of taxpayers, or in bleaker terms, from the pockets of those who have managed not to become unemployed through the economic crisis.

The unemployment cuts certainly serve great benefit and are necessary for a large number of American workers, but that does not make the change a welcome one for many people.  In a time where everyone is working hard for the money that they are able to earn, is seems nobody wants to pay extra to help others when they feel that they can barely help themselves.

Ultimately, it may be that the unemployment system needs to be redesigned, or even that the tax structure needs to be reconsidered, but the simple fact is that unemployment extensions are here once again for those who are eligible for them.
