Another E. Coli Scare Sweeps the Nation is Organic Beef Safe to Eat?

With so many people trying to put healthy organic food on the table these days, the recent recall of organic beef was frightening to organic eaters all around the nation.  A test sampling of the beef indicated that e. coli was present in the beef, which prompted the recall.

Stores in more than 20 states, including Washington D.C. were a part of the recall.  The company, Nature’s Harvest, sold the beef not knowing that it was contaminated.  Branded stores in California, Hawaii, Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Virginia, Delaware, Georgia, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Illinois, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Maryland, and Washington D.C. sold the beef products that were subject to the recall.

Some of the grocery stores involved include Costco, Fresh and Easy, Price Chopper, Shoprite, and Gelsons – all of these surprisingly ‘big names’ had this tainted beef.

So far, no one has reported any illness from eating the beef that was part of the recall, but if you’ve recently bought organic meat, you might want to check with your grocer to see if your purchase was a part of the recall.  If you or a member of your family has recently eaten organic beef from this company, you will want to watch for signs of sickness.  The E. Coli can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps.  In some severe cases, it can even be life threatening.

It is always better to be safe rather than sorry, so if you purchased beef that was a part of the recall, toss it out.  Better safe than sorry!
