BBQ Turkey Can Be a Great Holiday Tradition for Your Family

If you’re tired of roasted turkey, and don’t feel like deep frying a bird for Thanksgiving, there is another option.  You can actually BBQ your turkey.  This is an easy method with the right recipe, and will give you a great tasting Thanksgiving meal.  How do you BBQ a turkey, though?

The first step to making your Thanksgiving meal this way is to oil the grill’s grate where you’ll put the turkey.  You’re only going to have fire under half of the grill, so choose which half to oil now.  Next, you need to season your Thanksgiving turkey – loosen the skin so you can slip your hand under it and use your favorite rub to season it.  Now, light half of the grill.  For gas grills, only light one side.  For charcoal grills, put charcoal only under half.  You also need to put a pan under the turkey to catch the drippings.

To make the best BBQ turkey for your Thanksgiving meal, you next need to make sure that the grill is at three hundred and twenty-five degrees.  Place your thawed turkey on its side, with the legs away from the flame.  Cook it this way for forty-five minutes. Flip the turkey over to the other side for another forty-five minutes.

Use the drippings to baste the turkey frequently during the grilling process, but make sure the temperature stays at three hundred and twenty-five degrees.  You will need to cook the turkey on its back for twenty-five minutes, and on its front for another twenty-five minutes.  Your Thanksgiving turkey will be done when the breast meat reaches one hundred and sixty-five degrees.  Simply cool and enjoy!
