Do You Need to Include Extra Protein in Your Diet?

Having a balanced diet is very important, but many people are simply not getting enough protein. It is vital to have the proper daily intake so that you are able to repair muscle tissue, and so that you have a strong and healthy body.

Protein is very important for growing children, as well as those who are spending more time in the gym. Even if you aren’t hitting the weights, you will still want to add more protein to your diet so that you do not start losing muscle tissue as you exercise.

You can get your protein in a number of ways. You can add more lean meats to your diet, such as chicken and turkey. Tuna and other fish are also great forms of protein. Dairy products, when you do not go overboard, can be a fine source of protein as well. Those who are vegetarians may prefer to get their added protein from soy products or whey shakes. Beans are another great source, as is asparagus.

Adding extra protein is good, but you need to make sure that you do not add too much.  When you have an overabundance, your body will not be able to absorb and use it, and that means that it goes to waste. In addition, you do not want your body to become overtaxed from trying to digest too much protein. This can make you feel tired and lethargic when you are trying to work out.

The amount of protein that you need each day is based on your body size and the amount of physical activity that you do. Speak with a nutritionist to learn the proper amount for you and your family.
