Easy Baking Tips For Perfect Cakes Every Time

It doesn’t take much work to add elegance to an everyday cake.  With just a little bit of practice, you can create cakes that are just as lovely as any you might buy at a bakery, and they will be just as delicious, too.

How to Make a Regular Cake Spectacular

You have probably made several cakes already, even if they were from a supermarket-bought cake mix.  You understand the delicate nature of the soft and spongy mixture inside of the cake, and you know how easy it can be to mess up the delicious frosting on the outside if you try and rush things.

Some of the most popular cakes are layer cakes and Bundt cakes.  You can begin your practice with cakes you have already made in the past.  This way, you will have some comfort level before beginning.

With some stencils, you can decorate a plain Bundt cake with colored sugar in fun designs.  A very easy decorating tip is to lay a piece of lace directly over your cake and then sift powdered sugar over it.  When you lift the lace, you will be left with a gorgeous design in the sugar and an elegant cake to present to friends.

A layer cake is easy to make fancier, too.  All you need to do is slice the cake into smaller layers with a serrated knife, and stack them on top of each other before applying the frosting.  You will finish with a taller, torte-style cake that looks like you spent hours on it.  With fruit fillings and fresh cream between layers, you can add even more colors and flavors.

Taking Your Cake to the Next Level

When you are ready to try more challenging techniques, then you can begin attempting your own cake mixes.  It is not hard at all to bake a cake from scratch.  Flavored syrups can change the color and taste of your cake, and give your dessert more depth and sophistication.

Jazzing Up the Frosting

With regards to the frosting, try whipping your icing for a lighter, fluffier appearance, as well as a smoother taste.  Whipped frosting is harder to present neatly, but often the peaks and swirls give their own beauty to the finished product.  For sharper edges, you may want to learn how to make a tasty fondant icing.  Fondant icing does take special skill, so be sure to practice several times before attempting the technique on a special dessert.

You can also try mixing your own frosting recipes with different flavors.  Orange and lemon cakes are always popular, and just a little bit of flavoring can go a long way.

The final touch is the wording of the cake.  For script, you can fill a frosting bag and lightly apply the words.  There are techniques you can learn for adding shapes, flowers and other visual effects.  For a less formal cake, you might top it with flowers, fruit, candles, or even your favorite candies.  As long as the final product is delicious, there is no wrong answer.
