How to Make a Delicious Soft Boiled Egg

If you want to build muscle and lose weight, the humble egg is hands-down one of the best foods available. There are hundreds of ways to prepare them, so it’s surprising how few people know how to properly cook soft boiled eggs.  People tend to avoid soft boiled eggs because they think they are difficult to make.

Rather, soft boiling an egg is actually as easy to make as hard boiled ones. You don’t need to go to a culinary school to learn why!  The reason people avoid soft boiling is because you can’t tell when they are cooked just by looking at them, like you can with scrambled or fried eggs.  The trick to soft boiling is timing!

You will need:

Eggs

Pan of water

Salt

Seasonings

Directions:

Step 1: Place cold eggs into a pot.  Fill the pot with water, 1 inch above the eggs.

Step 2: Heat the stove to medium.  Place pan on heat.

Step 3: Once the water starts to boil, shut off the heat.  This is a good way to time the eggs because water takes on average 3 minutes to boil.

Step 4: Wait 4-7 minutes, then run the eggs under cold water. You can put ice in the water to speed cooling.

Step 5:  Cut the top of the egg open and enjoy.

Serving Suggestion:

Soft boiled eggs go great with breakfast toast.  Try slicing sourdough or whole wheat toast into small sections and dipping them in the egg.  You can place a soft boiled egg on top of hash browns for another delicious breakfast.
