How to Make Delicious Country Style Beef Stew

As the weather turns colder outside, families everywhere start craving rich, thick, warming home-cooked meals.  This country-style beef strew is hearty enough to satisfy the largest appetite without sacrificing taste, and won’t break the bank – everything you need to make this can be bought at the grocery store for under $10.

To make this country style beef stew, you will need:

2 lbs of stew beef

Lipton onion soup mix (this makes everything taste better!)

1 large onion (sliced thinly)

2 stalks celery (sliced)

8 large carrots (sliced thickly)

8 medium yellow potatoes (cut into large cubes)

Salt and pepper

Olive oil

4 pints water

Steps:

To begin, pour a generous dash of olive oil into a large non-stick saucepan.  Heat on medium-high, and brown your beef on all sides until no traces of red meat remain.

When all of your beef is brown, pour cold water into your pan until the beef is completely covered.  Bring the pan to a boil and add salt and pepper to taste.

Next, add all your vegetables.  Push them to the sides of the beef in the pan so they cook properly.  Simmer the meat and vegetables together for 10 minutes on medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for two to three hours until it’s completely cooked.

The more fat you see in your beef, the shorter the cooking time, as the fat helps soften up the meat.  Skim off any foam or fat that rises to the surface with a sieve or slotted spoon.

Serving Suggestion:

Serve with warm crusty bread in a shallow soup dish to aid cooling.
