How To Make Your Own Seafood Paella At Home

Making seafood paella is a great way to enjoy the taste of shellfish mixed with some of your other favorite flavors, such as saffron and fresh vegetables. 

 

To make seafood paella at home, you will need: a quarter cup of olive oil, a chicken breast (or equivalent amount of white fish), fifteen tiger prawns, fifteen manila clams and about ten black mussels.  (Shrimp should be unpeeled; clams and mussels should be scrubbed.)

 

For seafood paella, you’ll need a red bell pepper cut into long strips, two chopped hot chorizos, two small tomatoes, peeled and seeded, a teaspoon of Spanish paprika, a pinch of saffron, five and a half cups of chicken stock and a cup of white Spanish beans.  In addition, you’ll need a cup of green peas, two cups of paella rice and some sea salt.

 

To make seafood paella, first heat the oil in a large skillet.  Add the chicken or fish and sauté. Remove the chicken when done. Next, add the chorizo and bell pepper and sauté, and then add the paprika, saffron and tomatoes.  Add the salt and stir well.

 

Now, add the chicken stock to your seafood paella and bring to a boil.  Simmer for fifteen minutes.  Add the beans and the rice and stir.  Add the chicken and shellfish to your seafood paella and cook until done.  Ladle out your seafood when it is done and add the green peas and cook until rice is done.

 

Increase the heat to high and add your shellfish back to the pan.  Remove your seafood paella from the heat and cool until warm.  Serve your seafood paella warm, not hot, to get the best flavor.
