How to Prevent Cancer by Changing Your Diet

The food choices we make ultimately determine our health and how much we’ll thrive in life.  We all know that we need to take in certain nutrients and vitamins for a better immune system, but this can even go as far as to keep cancer away.  Learn foods you can begin to eat more consistently to aid in cancer prevention, or even to prevent other diseases.

Garlic

This is one of the most potent cancer preventing foods in the world.  It is most effective when eaten raw, and there are actually a number of nutrients in garlic that serve to keep cancer away, including allicin.

Cruciferous Veggies

These veggies include cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and more.  They are most effective at helping to prevent cancers in the digestive tract with dietary fiber, indoles and isothiocyanates, crambene, and Vitamins A and C.

Leafy Green Veggies

Foods, such as spinach, collard greens, chard, and kale, can actually help protect against breast, mouth, and colon cancer, as well as lung, stomach, and other cancers.  They’re packed with fat-soluble vitamins, which include Vitamins A, C, D, and K.  It’s recommended to eat leafy greens with a teaspoon of dietary fat (olive oil, cheese, salad dressing), to better absorb the vitamins.

Legumes

Beans, and other foods that belongs in the legume category, contain a number of antioxidents that help reduce the chances of cancer, inhibit the division and growth of cancer cells.  Beans have the power to combat free radical cells within the body.

Berries

Berries help protect us against esophageal, skin, bladder, lung, and many other cancers.  They are also packed with a large amount of antioxidants, which can improve vision, weight loss, and lower blood pressure.

Cancer preventing foods that are eaten raw contain more nutrients than those cooked.  For the most vitamins and minerals, consume fresh food from your neighborhood farmer’s market or grocery store that aren’t soaked in dressings or oils.
