Turkey Recipes: Not Just for Thanksgiving

Ground turkey is versatile and adapts to many recipes because it’s cheap, and like fish and chicken, it’s a lean and healthy meat.  You can transform any of your favorite dishes into a great turkey recipe by substituting ground beef with ground turkey in tacos, meatloaf, casseroles, and more. Here is a great recipe for Spicy Asian Turkey Burger.

Spicy Asian Turkey Burgers:

Recipe Ingredients:

½ cup dry breadcrumbs, 1 egg white, 1 tablespoon finely chopped sweet Vidalia onion, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 teaspoon minced ginger root, ½ teaspoon Chinese five spice powder, ¼ teaspoon ground ginger, 1/8 teaspoon pepper, 1 pound ground turkey, 4 slices smoked Gouda cheese, 4 onion rolls, ½ cup spinach leaves, 4 pineapple rings, canned and drained.

Recipe Directions:
Whisk together bread crumbs, egg white, onion, soy sauce, minced ginger root, five-spice powder, ground ginger, and black pepper in a large mixing bowl.  Add in the turkey, stir the ingredients together, and shape the turkey into four burger patties.

This turkey recipe cooks up deliciously on the grill, frying pan, or under the broiler. Just before they are done, top them with cheese.   Add the pineapple rings to the grill or the broiler and brown two to three minutes.  Lightly toast the onion rolls and place the burgers, pineapple rings and spinach leaves on the rolls.

Ground turkey is a generic base for any dish in any culture. People who don’t think they like ground turkey are often surprised at how delicious it can be when herbs, spices, and seasonings are added. Remember when substituting for turkey recipes, that turkey doesn’t take as long to cook as beef. Cut into the turkey or use a meat thermometer to check for doneness, then remove turkey from the heat so that it doesn’t dry out.
