Why Buying Fish from a Quality Fish Market is Better for Your Health

Everyone knows that eating fish is healthy for you and provides great extra nutrients, including the heart-healthy Omega 3.  Fish is full of protein and it is good for the heart and the brain.

However, if you are eating fish that you buy in the chain grocery stores or fish that you buy in cans, you aren’t getting all of the nutrition that you need.  If you buy breaded fish at the store or a fast food joint, it’s even worse!  If you want the best nutrition and that tastiest fish, you need to find a high quality fish market in your area.

When you are choosing a market, find one that is clean.  Fresh fish, of course, have a rather unpleasant odor.  However, when the fish is very fresh and kept on ice, that smell is limited.  If you find a fish market that has a horrid, rancid smell, you are going to want to avoid eating anything that you find there, even if the prices are low!

Fresh fish from a great market offers a number of benefits.  You can be sure that there are fewer pollutants.  You will know that the fish hasn’t been sitting around for days, or frozen for a long period of time.  You can be reasonably sure that there is less mercury in the fish, depending on the type of fish and the location in which it was caught.
