Help Your Kids Make Fun Thanksgiving Costumes

Thanksgiving is a time filled with family, friends and good food.  It should also be filled with fun!  This can be done easily by letting your kids make their own Thanksgiving costumes.  What sort of Thanksgiving costumes might your children make for this holiday?  Here are several traditional favorites that can be made simply with times from you local craft store.

One of the simplest and most popular Thanksgiving costumes is – of course – a turkey.  This can be elaborate, or it can be a simple headband.  The easiest option is to use construction paper of different colors to make a turkey headband and let your kids have fun with it.  Downloading templates from the Internet is a good option – you can find numerous sites that let you download these images.

Other popular Thanksgiving costumes for kids include Pilgrims and Indians.  You can use construction paper here. Black and white construction paper can easily be turned into a Pilgrim hat, while you can make an Indian headdress with the same materials, but in different colors.

Of course, you can take your kids to the thrift store or to Goodwill to find clothing that resembles period garb to make really authentic Thanksgiving costumes.

What can your kids do with their Thanksgiving costumes?  While playing and enjoying the holiday is a good option, you can use costume creation as a way to teach history to your kids.  Of course, you can also let your kids put on their own skits with their Thanksgiving costumes, and entertain the entire family.
