Highest Grossing Movies of 2010

2010 has been the year 3-D movies really took off, but there have been many other surprises at the box office. Let’s take a look at the top-grossing movies released this year.

Number ten belongs to Clash of the Titans 3-D.  While many critics slammed this movie for pouring so much money into the effects that they apparently forgot to hire a decent screenwriter, enough people flocked to see this 3-D epic to put it on the list.  Cheesy action-spectacle at its best.

Number nine is the reboot of the much-loved Karate Kid movie, starring Jaden Smith. Remaking this cult classic was a big gambol that angered many die-hard fans of the original.  Was it worth the coinage? You’ll have to go see it to find out.

How to Train Your Dragon (3-D) comes in at the number eight position.  This animated film was as popular with adults as it was with kids, with it’s shrewdly witty dialog, wonderful cast of colorful characters and, of course, the brilliantly-brought-to-life hero dragon ‘Toothless’.  If your child loves dragons and dinosaurs they’ll adore this brilliantly animated action-adventure tale.

Shrek Forever After takes the number seven spot.  This sequel to the hit film franchise shows the now-married-with-children Shrek hankering for his former life when he was the terror of the town.  When he is granted his wish by the shady Rumpelstiltskin, he soon comes to realize that sometimes, everything you’ve ever wanted is really right in front of you.  A wonderful message and heartwarming fun suitable for the whole family.

Despicable Me is one of the funniest movies of the year and takes the number six spot on this list.  Brought to you by the folk who made Toy Story.

Inception is one of the most mind blowing films of the year and proudly takes number five on this list.  Critics and fans alike have been raving about this movie since it first hit the theaters, making it one of the most talked-about movies of the year.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse takes the number four spot on the list.  This teen vampire drama is part of one of the most popular movie series of all time.  The effects are wonderful but some fans may find it a little slow in plotting and execution.

Iron Man 2, the sequel to the hit superhero film comes in at number three on the list of 2010s most popular movies.  Another multimillion dollar action/ adventure fest!

Number two belongs to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, a 3-D remake of Lewis Carroll’s timeless classic.  This is considered to be one of the best remade movies in recent years.

Number one (of course) belongs to Toy Story 3.  Kids and adults alike flocked to theaters to see the continued adventures of Buzz, Woody, and the game in what was hands down one of the biggest movies of the last few years.
