How Carpooling Can Save You a Ton of Money on Your Daily Drive

Carpooling can be a great way to save money on gas and lower competition for great parking spots at the same time.  It can also be a great way to decrease boredom and lower stress on the ride to work.  Here, we will look at some tips to help make your carpool successful and stress-free.

One thing to consider is making certain that you have a good schedule established.  This should clearly outline what time everyone is expected to be ready and who will be doing the driving each day.  You can alternate drivers every day, week, month, or whatever works for your schedule.

Ensure that you are always punctual for picking people up when driving, and that you are always ready when the carpool arrives to pick you up.  This will make your carpool the most efficient.

Another thing to consider is creating a list of rules and policies up front.  If you don’t want people eating or smoking in your car, say so up front.  Make certain that people know that the carpool is for going to and from work, not running errands, and ask that everyone gas up their cars before you depart.  Blasting music may be one person’s morning pick-me up and another’s morning headache, so set rules for the use of the radio early and don’t break them.

If one person is not going to be driving for whatever reason, make certain that they are contributing to gas costs.  If everyone is driving, you can calculate and split expenses or let each driver be responsible only for their own car.

Finally, be certain that everyone is respectful of the carpool.  This means always being on time, ensuring that people’s vehicles are kept clean, not leaving trash in the car and ensuring everyone has good manners during the ride.

A quiet morning commute can be a good way to start the day, and making sure that your carpool is peaceful can make all the difference.
