How to Find and Purchase Antiques On a Dime

If you are interested in purchasing antique furniture, but you don’t have thousands of dollars in your bank account to spend, there are a few places you can check out for cheap items.

Start at your local flea market.  There are so many different and crazy things that you would never find anywhere else.  Families pass down items for generations and then finally someone decides that they want to get rid of the piece.  If you are visiting a traveling flea market, you can also find antiques at very reasonable prices.

Auctions are another very popular place for individuals who want to purchase antiques.  They offer such a wide variety of items that you simply never know what is going to come under the hammer next.  From tables to curio cabinets, you can find it all at an auction.  You might be lucky and fall in love with a piece that no one else is interested in.  In this case, place your bet and then get ready to take your windfall home!

You can also check out nearby charity shops and thrift stores. People often give their furniture away to these stores if they don’t want the hassle of selling the piece privately.  You can pick up a ton of bargains here for just a few dollars apiece.

Although it might sound unappealing, one of the best places to find antique pieces for free is by the dumpster.  We’re not kidding!  You don’t have to put on a pair of boots and get in the dump to find what you didn’t know you were looking for.  Oftentimes when people are moving, they will leave things they don’t want beside the dumpster at an apartment complex, just ready for picking up.  Check Craigslist to get advance warning of these hidden treasure troves – just look in the ‘FREE” section.  After all, they do say that one man’s trash is just another man’s treasure!
