How to Fool Your Family Into Believing You Are in a Relationship

You are happy as a single person. You have more time to devote to your work, your hobbies, and your leisure time, and you don’t have to worry about all of the problems that can come from dating. While you might be very happy as a single person, there is a good chance that your family probably pressures you about getting into a relationship, such as constantly asking you when you’re going to find a nice guy or girl, sending you discount coupons for online dating sites for your birthday, and so on.

Talking with the family about your lack of a relationship can be frustrating and even depressing for many people. The good news is that there is a way to stop the family from talking about your relationship problems. The bad news is that you are going to have to lie. Making your family believe you are in a relationship isn’t very difficult. You even have a couple of options.

First, you could have a “long distance” relationship with a person in another country. This way, you don’t have to bring him or her over to family dinners, and there isn’t any way for your parents to grill him or her, or find out that they don’t really exist.

A second option is to have one of your friends pretend to be in a relationship with you. Make sure that your family hasn’t met the friend before and introduce him or her as your partner. A benefit of using a friend is that they already have a relationship with you, so they will know quite a bit about you when the family starts asking questions.

This isn’t going to last forever though, and you have to consider the amount of embarrassment you will feel if your family was to find out about the fake relationship. All in all, it might be a good idea to just be honest from the start. Wear your singleness with pride!
