How to Send a Gift to a Soldier

Is someone you know and love currently serving active duty in the military?  Are you wondering how to get a gift to a soldier in Afghanistan or to another military base?  The good news is that you can do it.  While it often takes longer for parcels to arrive on the base due to security and distance, you can send gifts to a soldier, and you can even do it at regular US shipping rates.

One thing you should know is that if you’re sending food to your soldier, it is best to send something that will last a while.  Some packages can take weeks (or longer) to arrive.  For the average soldier away from their own home and culture, the gift of music, magazines, or video games can be a great one.

It’s simple to send a package to a deployed military member if you have the address they are currently stationed at.  Once you have everything packed, you just need to take it to the post office.  You will have to fill out a customs form that states what is inside, but it takes only a moment to fill out.

A great idea when sending gifts to a soldier is to choose a flat rate priority mail box.  These boxes are less than ten dollars as long as they are being shipped to a US address (APO address ARE considered US addresses).

Another thing to consider is sending a gift to a soldier you might not know.  There are websites available that offer the names and requests from different people stationed all over the world, and you can help to make the day brighter for someone working to protect our freedoms.
