Almost any room can be a great place for a billiards table. First and foremost, the trick is to make sure that the room you choose to place the billiards table in is of adequate size to allow players to comfortably make shots from any angle. Take your longest cue and make sure you can make a shot from all around the table – walk around it 360 degrees and try shooting the ball from all angles. Better take your time to do this now than install the big, heavy table and then find you have to move it again!
When selecting your room, make sure you have a very level floor. For obvious reasons, a crooked floor will cause a lot of problems when it comes to shooting the ball – even the tiniest incline can cause the balls to move, or will create an uphill gradient on your table that will deflect the aim of even the best player!
The room will need adequate lighting, of course, but you’ll want to focus that lighting on the table itself. Oftentimes, pool tables in halls have lights right above the tables. There is a practical reason for this. Overhead lighting prevents the balls from casting shadows, and makes it easier for players to judge angles and distances correctly.
Finally, the room you play billiards in will need some storage space for your billiards items. You can use a wooden wall rack to hang up your cues when you’re not playing. This will ensure that the room isn’t cluttered up by your billiards equipment and accessories.
