How to Start a Fun Holiday Tradition for Your Family

Every family seems to have its own holiday traditions passed on through the generations.  These traditions, while meaningful, do not have to be all that you do to celebrate.  You can create your own tradition with your family this holiday season, and you can all have a lot of fun doing it.

First, consider all of the traditions that are already a part of your holidays and see what you can do to spice them up.  If you’ve been decorating the tree with the same decorations for years, you might want to change them up.  When it comes to your treats this holiday season, consider adding some healthy options.  Make some banana nut bread or cinnamon cake for a Christmasy sweet treat.  You might even want to make an extra loaf and bring it over to the neighbors.

Another way to add a great tradition to your holiday season is by reading aloud to your children.  If you have young children, visit the bookstore and invest in some new holiday season books.  Some classics that you will want to read this year include ‘The Night Before Christmas’ and ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas.’  For those who are a bit older, you can start reading the Dickens novel ‘A Christmas Carol’ a week or so before Christmas, and finish the book on Christmas Eve.

A great option for starting a holiday tradition that will last with your family is to volunteer at a local homeless shelter or animal shelter.  Let your children see just how fortunate they are and show them that they can make a difference in the lives of those around them.

There are tons of great ways that you can build your own holiday traditions with your family.
