Is Shrek Forever After a Good Example of Family Entertainment?

If you have seen even one of the four Shrek films, then you already know that they offer one of the most unique forms of high-quality family entertainment. They have a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor for the adults in the crowd, but they also have a huge amount of the “potty humor” that tends to make them popular with the younger crowd, too. They use remarkably talented actors to voice the innovative and amusing characters, and this all adds up to tons of family fun.

Let’s not forget that they also have excellent music, entertaining plots, and lots of action, too. Clearly, each of the films is a good way of enjoying family entertainment. The third installation, “Shrek Forever After” takes viewers into the period following the end of the traditional fairy tale. For example, what happens when the prince and princess go off into the sunset to raise their family? What this movie tells us is that one of them might be tempted into longing for their older, wilder days, and might soon learn some painful lessons.

The movie shows Shrek as a very settled family man who is longing for a bit of excitement. He is given a rare opportunity by the famed Rumpelstiltskin, and this sets off a chain of events that drives the rest of the film. Just like the classic formula used in the previous movies, we wonder if Shrek will emerge triumphant, and whether or not he will be able to return to his unique little family unit containing Fiona, their children, Donkey, Puss in Boots, and the many other characters, as well.

Finding family friendly movies that are not too boring for teens or too mature for little ones can be a huge challenge, but Shrek Forever After is easily among the must-see family movies of the year.
