The Top 3 Most Dangerous Foods in the World

Feeling adventurous with your food?  Ready to try something new and bizarre?  You may need nerves (and a stomach) of steel to tackle the top three dishes on our list.  Prepare yourself for the world’s most dangerous foods!

Live Octopus

Let’s start in Korea with a traditional Korean food that truly fights back!  We are talking about Sannakji, also known as wriggling octopus.  This food is basically a live octopus – its limbs are severed and served while they are still moving.  Because the suction cups of the wriggling tentacles can get stuck in your throat, there is a very real possibility of choking.  In fact, six people on average die each year from consuming this dangerous living food.

Puffer Fish

You may have heard of the Fugu in Japan, the puffer fish that can kill you if not prepared just right, but you may not have heard of this new food Japanese food sensation: the silver-stripe Blaasop fish.  This deadly little sea creature has toxins in its liver that can paralyze and even kill you.  More than 10 deaths per year have been reported due to consumption of this “fishy” food.

Bug Larvae

Our final fatal food comes from Sardinia and is called Casu Marzu.  It is a traditional sheep’s milk cheese that just so happens to be infested with bug larvae — maggots to be precise!  This food, though not always fatal, is not for the weak of heart, because it is eaten with the live maggots still in it.  This food may not kill you, but it can still be dangerous as the larvae can actually survive through the stomach and burrow their way into your intestines, causing all manner of pain and infection.  If in doubt… stick with the chicken.
