The World’s Creepiest and Scariest Attractions

Getting frightened is not the most enjoyable experience for many people.  However, for some, it’s a thrill and a rush to get the living daylights scared out of them.  If you get a thrill from visiting creepy and strange attractions, then there are plenty of locations in the world to add to your bucket list.  Here are the top four most macabre.

See Real Mummies at Museo de las Momias

If you live in the States, you don’t have to go far to find a scary attraction; Museo de las Momias is right down south in Mexico.  This attraction has 111 mummies (preserved so that you can make out features).  They were presumably exhumed between the years of 1865 and 1989.  Their expressions are not blank; instead, many seem to be horrified, perhaps because many were accidentally buried alive during a cholera epidemic to stop the spread of the disease.

These real life zombies (including all ages, even babies and fetuses) at the Museo attraction are sure to give you the willies.  Not for the faint-hearted.  Check the pictures on Google before taking your family there if you have young or sensitive children.

Visit the Torture Museum in Amsterdam

You may have seen some creepy stuff at the Machu Picchu attraction, but even that can’t compare with the villainy you will find at the Torture Museum in Amsterdam.  This attraction is sensational, but when your entire business is built on ancient torture methods, how can you expect anything but gallows humor?  At this museum attraction, you can find everything from ancient guillotines to Middle Ages skull crackers to highly disturbing illustrations – real life history lessons that seem like something out of “Saw 5.”

Check out Hollywood’s Museum of Death

If you love celebrities (even dead celebrities) then don’t miss The Museum of Death attraction in Hollywood, which features actual autopsy footage and death footage of A and B-list stars.  Even in death, it seems, the stars continue to entertain us.

Go Ghost-Spotting at Winchester Mystery House

Last but not least, check out one of the most haunted locations in America – the Winchester Mystery House attraction in San Jose.  This 160-room Victorian mansion reportedly has three ghosts, and creepy architectural design to boot, which was conceived as a way to confuse the spirits.  Stay at a haunted or haunting attraction for a pre-Halloween scare!
