Will the Conan Television Talk Show Last?

When the infamous Conan versus Leno talk-show war in 2010 first began, it seemed like most of America was proudly declaring themselves Team Coco.  In fact, Conan O’Brien was incredibly popular, and almost every move he made garnered major media attention, even after his show went off the air.

When his time slot was given to Leno, Conan and his fans were angry.  After only a brief time off the air, however, it was announced that TBS was giving him a new television talk show.

Now that Conan has been on the air with TBS for a while, it is time to look at whether or not the show will likely last.  While it premiered to incredible ratings, they have since dropped considerably.  Leno and Letterman are now coming in well above Conan in viewership, though this may be due in large part to the fact that his show is on cable TV, while theirs are on network television.  Conan viewership is certainly still high, and the show is doing well for TBS on the whole.

As to whether or not Conan will last, only time will tell.  If team Coco fans are as dedicated as they claim, then there is certainly a large enough base to keep it on the air for years to come.  His presence on cable allows Conan to make many more outrageous jokes and sketches than he was able to with network television, and if he can draw in enough new viewers, he may just have a permanent spot with TBS and late night television.
