Are Products From Infomercials Really Reliable?

Whether you want to admit it or not, the odds are good that you have been sucked in to infomercials at some time in your life.  Perhaps you were just flipping through channels, or perhaps you thought you were watching a commercial.  At any rate, before you know it you have seen a thirty minute advertisement for a product you no longer feel you can live without.  The question many people have is whether or not the products sold on infomercials are really reliable.

There is, of course, no hard and fast answer to this question.  Some products have proven to be tremendous inventions that later make their way into stores as top sellers.  Products like Oxy Clean and Orange Clean come to mind.  Infomercials are an inexpensive way to mass market new ideas and to introduce them to the general public, and in cases like this, they can certainly be quite reliable.

There are also products that are notoriously unreliable.  The Handi-stitch, a pocket sized sewing machine that was sold on infomercials years ago was a major disappointment for consumers, who learned that it didn’t have much power and that it was incapable of even the most basic tasks.  This is certainly on the list of highly unreliable products.

In short, there are both reliable and unreliable products sold through infomercials.  One of the best things that you can do before making any purchase is to take the time to read reviews on the product.  Watch out for reviews made by company representatives and learn what real consumers think, and you will be able to make much better decisions.
