Bathroom Makeover 101: Choosing Your Paint Scheme

Whenever you are looking to change the look and feel of your bathroom, few things can make as big a difference as repainting the room.  Little changes such as buying new matching soap dispensers, shower curtains, and towels can certainly enhance the room’s appeal, but it is the paint color you choose that will bring the room together, so it pays to come up with a plan before you go out shopping for paint supplies.

Great colors for your bathroom are those that are relaxing and can provide a spa like atmosphere.  Golds and burgundies can provide a luxurious feel, while blues, greens, and light pastels offer a relaxing feel that can help you ease your mind and get rid of stress and frustration. Light yellow paint will provide a warm, sunny feeling that will lift your spirits even on overcast or rainy days.

Another great idea is to choose a neutral palette.  This will help ensure that your paint goes with not only your current bathroom scheme, but any you choose to use in the future.  Off white, cream, beige, and brown tones can fit well with most colors and will look incredible with a few plants in the room.

The last thing to consider when choosing a bathroom paint color is the size of the bathroom.  Darker, warm colors such a purple, burgundy or earth-brown can make an overly large bathroom feel smaller, while lighter colors can make a small room feel larger.

Ultimately it comes down to a matter of personal taste.  There is no hard and fast rule when it comes to paint color, and when you find something that feels right to you, you can certainly find a way to make it work with your current decor.
