Does the Topsy Turvy Tomato Grower Work?

If you are one of those people who enjoy watching late night infomercials, or find yourself unable to change the channel when these product ads come on, you have likely heard of the Topsy Turvy.

Also available at garden centers nationwide, this is a unique space-saving planter that lets you grow tomatoes on your porch or in your yard by hanging the plant upside down.  This helps keep pests away, making it easy to care for the plants without the need for a real garden.  According to commercials, hanging the plants upside down even helps the fruit grow better and bigger.

Reviews on the product are rather varied, but there are certainly many benefits to the Topsy Turvy.  People who have longed to grow tomatoes, but don’t have a yard, can certainly find benefit to the hanging planter.  The Topsy Turvy is popular with great sales, and many cite it as the easiest way to grow tomatoes at home.

As with any infomercial product, there are also many who dislike the Topsy Turvy.  Many complain that the device is too heavy and that it is hard to find a place sturdy enough to hang it.  Many don’t like the need to constantly water the plants, as the tomato plants are unable to get the moisture they need from the ground.  However, the latter is true of all container plants.

Ultimately, the Topsy Turvy is only for those who have the patience and drive to garden, and simply lack the space or open soil needed to do so.
