How to Have Fun Decorating for Halloween

Halloween decorations that you and your kids can make yourself are much more fun then decorating with only store bought items. You can purchase a few simple Halloween decorations from the store, such as a Halloween themed tablecloth and lights set, then make the rest yourself with easy, fun decorating ideas.

Create a Halloween decorations box that you and your children can use to make your own decorations. Add lots of construction paper, clean egg cartons, glue, scraps of material, Halloween colored yarn, green twist ties, glitter and markers.

You can make your own Halloween decorations out of simple construction paper. Cut strips of black, orange, green or even purple colored paper, then have kids make link chains to hang as festive garland.

You can use homemade mobiles to use as Halloween decorations, too. Take sturdy paper plates and paint or color them in Halloween. Knot one end of several pieces of string and run through the plates; then create fun pumpkin, spider or bat Halloween decorations from egg carton cups to hang from the string.

Use the egg carton cups as the “body” or “head” for critters or pumpkins. Decorate the cups with paint, markers, paper, felt, wiggle eyes, pipe cleaners, yarn, beads or scrap fabric. Assemble the mobiles and hang for ceiling Halloween decorations.

Make fun ghost Halloween decorations by placing white tissue paper over small Styrofoam balls. Glue in place, or use a twist tie or ribbon at the “neck.” Glue on wiggle eyes or cut black construction paper with a hole puncher to make eyes. Hang these Halloween decorations in windowsills, or along a piece of long string to create ghost garland.
