How to Keep the Housework Under Control in Just a few Minutes a Day

No matter what size your house is, keeping it clean can be a chore that can often seem overwhelming.  Get back in control with these simple tips:

Tip #1: Get Organized

To begin with, get a piece of paper and write down your housework regimen.  Whether it’s a chore chart, your personal day planner, or the calendar on your iPhone, just have it written down somewhere so you can reference your daily duties.  Split up each chore and designate a day of the week to do it.

Keep up with the chores that can get out of hand easily.  If laundry is always an issue, try having Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays be laundry days and do only a load or two each time.  Once you’re caught up, you can cut down the days you do it.  Don’t save everything until it’s too late because you’ll be way too overwhelmed to do anything, let alone get caught up.  If you do a few things each day, the house will be in much better shape than piling it all up to do at once.

Just remember, cleaning can get out of hand easily, so do it often.  With that said, it doesn’t have to take up your whole day.  If you split it up and conquer the house little by little, you will definitely see results.

Tip #2: Clean First Thing for Half An Hour

Want to never have dishes pile up in the sink?  Make a point to take care of all the dishes in the sink first thing every morning so your kitchen doesn’t get chaotic.  You would be surprised how much gets done if you designate half an hour each morning to your chore list.   If the chores get done first thing in the morning, everything else will fall into place.  You’ll be more active, productive and optimistic about the rest your duties, knowing that you’ve already accomplished your least favorite duties.

If you have a dishwasher, rinse the dishes and load them every time you’re done with a meal.  This will ensure there are no dishes sitting in the sink.

Tip #3: Stay Stocked Up on Supplies

When you are running low, write it all down and hit the grocery store or supermarket to stock up.  If you run out of detergent, you’ll be tempted to put off laundry for weeks, which will leave you with mountains of dirty clothes and an endless cycle of laundry.  Always keep extra detergent in your supply closet.

When you see any household cleaning items on sale, jump on it and purchase them!  Cleaning supplies are also great to buy in bulk at bulk stores because they have such a long shelf life.  Toilet paper and paper towels never go bad but are always a pain to buy.  If you buy them in bulk, it will save you time and money.

Tip #4: Don’t Put it Off

The sooner you accept and embrace the chores at hand, the easier everything will be.  The worse place to be is in denial that you need to tidy up everyday.  The mentality that you just cleaned two days ago so you don’t have to clean for another week just doesn’t work.  You’ll end up more overwhelmed than you ever thought was possible.

Accept the workload and spread it out, but don’t put it off.  Even picking up clothes and tidying up each morning before work goes a long way when dealing with cleaning.  All it takes is a few minutes a day to keep up with everything and move on with your life.  Follow these handy tips so you don’t have to be stuck cleaning a never-ending mess!
