How to Make a Homemade Christmas Stocking

Being festive and crafty around Christmas is one of the best ways to celebrate the season. Making a classic Christmas stocking is one of the easiest things to do to save money and be creative. Drop by your local arts and crafts store to pick up some art supplies, and get started today.

You will need:

Two pieces of red fleece, 24 inches long by 16 inches wide.  You will also need a sheet of yellow felt, about nine by 12 inches.  In addition, you’ll need two large pieces of fake fur (24 by 16 inches).

Items you will need include: scissors, long sewing pins, a large sewing needle, fabric pain, clear tape, red, white and yellow embroidery floss and nine inches of white twist cord.

Steps:

First, download or find a classic stocking pattern from the internet or a Christmas Crafts book.  Lay the pattern on the red felt and cut out two Christmas stocking shapes.

Cut the faux fur to fit the top of the Christmas stocking.  Pin the stockings together with the fur inside.  Whipstitch the edge of the stocking with red floss and sew the shapes together.  Leave the top open.

Use the white floss to sew together the red and white fleece at the top.  Fold the top down so it makes a cuff.  Now, cut two star shapes from the yellow fleece.  Whipstitch the edges of the star and sew them together.

You can now write your child’s name on the Christmas star and sew it to the stocking.  With clear tape, tape together the ends of the cord and then sew it inside the Christmas stocking.
