How To Remove Chocolate Stains From Clothing

You may not like it, but as a parent you are eventually going to have to deal with one of the most frustrating laundry nightmares imaginable – chocolate stains.  While chocolate may be a delicious treat, it is an absolute horror when it comes to getting the chocolate stains out of your child’s clothes.

Before you throw that favorite shirt away, however, you might be happy to learn that you can get the stain out if you try.  Here is how to keep this laundry issue from costing your child a treasured outfit.

If you have caught the stain early enough, try to wipe up extra chocolate without spreading it or pushing it into the fibers of the clothing.  Rinse the stain fully with club soda and then sponge the area thoroughly.  Put dry spotter on the stain and cover it up with a sponge soaked in dry spotter and let it stand until the stain is gone.  Change the sponge as needed, and rinse the cloth with dry cleaning solvent when you are done.  In most cases, this will get the stain out of your laundry without too much hassle.

If this isn’t enough, you can also apply a few drops each of ammonia and your favorite dish soap to the stain.  Scrape the stain gently, flush it with water, and wash it as you would any other piece of laundry.  With any luck, this trick will be able to get any remaining chocolate stain out of your laundry, saving the article of clothing for another day and another stain.

For chocolate stains on white clothing, once you have completed one of the above methods, use a laundry stain bleach stick to bleach any marks left by the stain.  Apply a small amount and let it sit and soak for at least an hour.  Then launder as normal, and with any luck your laundry item will come out clean.
