How to Resurface Your Own Driveway and Save Money

Over the years, with hard winters and the ravages of time, you might find that your driveway is in need of repair. Hiring someone to resurface your driveway can be very expensive. If you have the tools, the time, and the motivation, you can resurface your blacktop driveway without the help of a professional.

One of the first things you need to do is to check the weather. The reason is simple. The temperature must be at least fifty degrees Fahrenheit for the sealer on the blacktop to set. You do not want to work on your driveway in the rain either. You will be able to buy your supplies, such as the sealer, filler, and a brush, at most home improvement stores.

Inspect your blacktop and remove any debris and loose material. When you find cracks in the driveway, fill them with the crack filler. When you find deep cracks, fill them partway up with sand first. Remove grass and weeds that might be coming through the driveway. Using a weed killer will destroy them at their roots. Then use a degreaser to clean the driveway.

Finally, after the cracks and holes are filled and covered with the filler, you can use the sealer to go over your driveway. It might be a good idea to add a second coat to your blacktop for extra protection. Always let the sealer dry for at least 24hrs before you walk or drive on it.

It’s easy to repair and resurface your driveway. The only cost to you will be your time.
