How to Save Money by Reusing Common Household Products

Many families today are trying to come up with creative ways to save money in a suffering economy.  One great way to improve your family’s bottom line is by finding a way to reuse any common household product you have previously purchased from the supermarket or department store.  With so much going to waste on a daily basis, this can be an easy way to save money and conserve resources.

Save Water

One major thing that goes to waste in every home and can easily be a product you reuse is water.  While waiting for your shower water to heat up, use a tub or watering can to catch the water that would otherwise go to waste.  This water can be used to water house plants, which is a great way to conserve resources.  Finding a way to reuse water is great for the environment and can decrease your water bill over the course of the year.

Re-Use Containers

You can also reuse containers that might otherwise end up end the wastebasket.  Yogurt or sour cream containers can easily be washed so you can hygienically reuse them as storage for leftovers or common items like safety pins.  Why waste money on expensive store bought containers when you can reuse these?  This is a great way to save money and reuse common items in the home.  If you have children, you can set them the task of decorating the containers with arts and crafts to make them attractive enough to display around your home.

Re-Purpose Plastic bags

Plastic bags can be great to reuse for picking up pet waste.  Throwing away the bags from the grocery store creates a lot of waste, and it can be expensive to buy waste bags for your pet.  Plastic bags are easy to reuse and a great way to conserve resources.

Recycle Cans

Try to recycle cans and turn them in for money.  Simply set up a wastebasket where you can store the old cans, and cash them in once a month.  (Don’t forget to wash them first or most recycling centers will not accept them.)  You can put this money toward your energy bills to reduce the overall cost.
