How to Tell Whether Your Cat is Pregnant

Whenever you have a cat that has accidentally gotten outside or if you have an unspayed cat that likes to play outside, you have to know the signs of feline pregnancy.  A cat in heat will always try to seek out a male, and in many cases, they manage to find them.  Here are some signs to help you tell whether your cat is pregnant.

An unspayed cat will often go into heat every couple of weeks.  One of the first signs that your cat is pregnant is that these cycles stop.  Frequent meowing, rubbing, and trying to get outside will stop happening.  As your cat gets farther into her pregnancy, her body will start changing, as well.  In addition to increased appetite and weight gain, her nipples will swell and start to turn a darker shade of pink.  She may even develop morning sickness.

Closer to the time of delivery, your cat will likely become more extremely affectionate.  She will start seeking your attention almost around the clock, even if you are sleeping.

She will also start nesting, stealing clothing items or blankets and looking for quiet areas that are comfortable and private.  She is looking for the space where she will give birth, and offering a clean, safe, and private area can keep her from choosing your clean laundry basket or another area where you may not want the birth to take place.

Learning whether your cat is pregnant can help you provide better care.  These symptoms will make pregnancy much easier to identify.  If you suspect your cat may be pregnant, take her to the vet straight away to have this confirmed.  A pregnant cat needs additional nutrition and close health attention, so visiting the vet can help you to be prepared for the birth.
