Some Unusual Uses for Bleach Good For More Than Just Your Clothes

Everyone wants to have a clean house. One of the best ways to keep your house sparkling is to clean with bleach. You will be able to find many different ways that you can use your household bleach, including some ways that you might never have considered. Here are a few of the simple things you can clean with bleach.

Most people know that bleach is used for the whites in laundry. You will be able to return your dingy whites to looking almost as good as new when you clean with bleach. You can even find color safe bleach on the market today.

You can help get many surfaces clean with bleach as well. The bathtub, sink, counter, and most other areas of the bathroom are easy to clean. One of the added benefits that the bleach provides is that it is also a disinfectant that kills almost all germs. This means that the surfaces that you clean with bleach are going to be truly deep-down clean.

When you clean, you will want to make sure that you never clean with pure bleach, or you may risk dissolving some less hardy materials! It’s much better if you dilute the bleach with water. Generally, six to eight parts water to one part bleach is an effective solution. You may also want to clean the kitchen counter with a bleach solution. It is very effective at killing e-coli bacteria, and much cheaper than most expensive sprays that claim to kill all germs (but usually don’t).

Many people clean animal tanks and cages by using bleach. If you use bleach on a pet tank, be sure to use a very weak solution (mix it with water), and rinse it thoroughly after use. Never ever use bleach to clean a fish tank, as no amount of washing can remove all traces of bleach, and just a thousandth part of bleach in the water will kill most fish. It goes without saying that you should never use bleach to clean pet or human food or water bowls. You (or your pet) will end up getting sick and if you use neat or straight bleach, you may even poison yourself.

If you suspect a child or animal has consumed food or water contaminated with bleach and is showing distress or symptoms of poisoning, call 911 immediately. Even if you feel fine, always call a Poison Control center and take their advice. For bleach liquid or fumes in the eye, flush with lots of cold water immediately, and keep the rater running over affected eye for at least 20 minutes. The best way to do this is to run the tap with lukewarm (never hot) water, hold your face under the tap, and open your eyes so the water runs constantly over the surface of your eye, cleansing it. If no running water if available, fill a shallow container with water and dip your face into the water, then open your eyes for as long as you can. Replace the water every couple of minutes until the swelling and redness dies down, usually 20-30 minutes for a bad splash of bleach in the eye. Afterward, seek medical attention if pain and swelling continues or if you see changes in your vision.

As you can see, you can clean with bleach to get many different areas of the house spotless. Just treat it with great caution, as you would with any other household chemical.
