3 Tips to Make Shopping With Your Baby Easier

If you have just had a new baby, you’ll know that your little one’s arrival changes everything.  A new baby is certainly a wonderful thing, but everything from getting a full night’s sleep to going to the supermarket just gets more difficult.

So how do you go shopping with an infant in tow without requiring hours of planning and more arms than even you and your spouse combined have?  Here are some tips to make shopping easier.

One absolutely essential tip to shopping with a baby is to go when he or she has been fed and is rested.  When you can manage this, you will find that there are far fewer tantrums, crying spells, and frustrations.  A well fed and well rested baby is simply a happier baby.

Another good idea is to consider a shopping cart designed to hold an infant seat.  While putting the baby in one of those backpack baby carriers while you’re shopping can seem convenient, putting a child seat in the cart offers a visual connection with you and allows you to interact with your baby, whether it is a quick smile or shaking the cereal box to make him or her giggle.  The child seats in most shopping carts are not appropriate for younger toddlers, and completely useless if your baby cannot yet sit up or support him or herself.

Another good idea is to find out which markets or shopping centers in your area offer changing tables in the restrooms.  Knowing which restrooms are designed for changing and which offer room to breastfeed can allow you to plan ahead.

With just a few simple steps of preparation, you’ll find that shopping with your baby can be more of a reward than an act of necessity.
