Beware These Top 5 Most Common Scams in Car Auto Repair

Car auto repair often costs a great deal more than you thought.  If you walk out of your car service garage and wonder if you were taken advantage of, your instincts are probably right.  Most people have no idea what it typically costs to replace a belt or to have the rotors replaced.  That leads to the ability of less-than-trustworthy people to scam you.

The following are the top five scams in auto repair:

1. Boosting Repair Estimates: You may not need all of those repairs on the estimate that your service person quoted you.  In some cases, technicians will include extensive repairs that are not necessary just to increase their bottom line.

2. Hook Schemes: The company offers a low price on oil checks and then, while you are there, quotes excessively for repairs that may or may not need to be done.

3. Deceiving the Customer: Some technicians may lie outright to you.  The technician may say you need a repair that you really do not.  Many do this because they know you have no knowledge of what the vehicle really needs.

4. Counterfeit Parts: Another of the popular car auto repair scams is to use inferior parts in vehicles that cost less while charging for the high end parts.  That could put your safety at risk.

5. Part Replacement Scam: The invoice may include costs associated to replacement of a part, but the company never replaced the part.  This outright lie can also be risky and expensive.

Car auto repair is necessary to keep your vehicle running.  However, it is up to you to avoid these common scams that could wind up costing you money.
