Can Eating Certain Foods Increase Your Child’s Growth Rate?

We all want our children to get the very best advantages that life has to offer.  This means the best possible learning opportunities and the best socialization, but it also means that we want them to be as healthy as possible.  Childhood is a crucial time in our lives as this is when they do most of their growing, and eating the right food products is key if you want to make sure their bodies are adequately nourished as they go through their main growth spurts. Today, we will take a look at foods that have beneficial properties that may even help your children reach their maximum height, mainly by eliminating symptoms known to stunt growth.

Of course, milk is one of the best products for encouraging bone growth in children.  Dairy products are packed with calcium, which is essential for bone development and growth.  Protein, which is found in eggs, meat, and fish, is also crucial for proper muscular growth and development.  If you are looking for still more great food products to help your children grow, don’t leave out green vegetables, which are an excellent source of vitamin D, which assists in iron absorption.  Cooking your veggies from a raw state rather than buying canned will offer more nutrients, as water in the can leaches out the nutrients, and you throw them away with the water..

Of course, there are also food products to avoid. Caffeine and salt can certainly reduce the body’s calcium and vitamin intake and can actually prevent proper growth.  Food products containing high amounts of sodium are also best avoided (unfortunately, be warned that this also includes pizza, which is one of the highest-salt products that your child can consume).  This is another reason to use fresh veggies rather than canned ones whenever possible, as canned veggies use salt as a preservative, much of which is absorbed by the veg. 

 

Fast food is also a poor choice when fostering healthy growth as it offers no real nutrients and packs a massive dose of fat, sugar and salt. Overweight kids are more prone to sitting around, which leads to lack of muscle development and can stunt growth in more extreme cases. Exercise causes denser bones, which are less prone to breakage. In later life, osteoporosis can set in if your child’s skeleton was not made dense enough by exercising when young and in regular and adequate calcium intake throughout their lives.
