Essential Back to School Products for Your Children

For children, half the fun of a new school year is the back-to-school shopping. It’s an opportunity for them to get psyched up to do their best, no matter what grade they’re in. Because the classroom supply budget at most schools is dwindling at a rapid pace, you can really do your part by having your children show up for class with the most essential products.

Some teachers prefer that students use mechanical pencils. Why? When children are constantly getting up to sharpen the old-fashioned kind, they are interrupting the whole class. Mechanical pencils last much longer. If your child prefers the old-fashioned style, just make sure that he or she has a portable pencil sharpener that can store the shavings, so he or she won’t make a mess and waste more time cleaning up afterward.

All children need quality backpacks to ensure that they can haul their stuff around without it getting lost or damaged. Some kids prefer a themed backpack, but make sure that it is designed to protect their growing backs. Overloading a cheap backpack with books every school day is a sure-fire way to ensure your child winds up at the doctor with strained back muscles or compressed spinal discs.

To counteract this, wheeled bags and backpacks are allowed at some schools, as long as they are small enough to store in lockers or in the homeroom.

Many children have special needs, and if yours do, make sure that you’re working with the teacher to provide the most vital products. For example, some kids prefer a very quiet environment for test-taking, so noise-canceling headphones may help them. Children with autism who dislike writing may prefer to use a small used laptop to type their stories or answers. Some schools may have grant money available if these products are too expensive for your budget.

Savvy back-to-school products don’t have to be expensive or lavish – they just have to make sense for your child’s particular needs.
