How To Find a Dog Who Will Fit in Perfectly With Your Children

For parents, one of the most commonly asked and often denied requests that children make is, “Can we get a dog?”  Dogs are wonderful companions, but many parents have seen the results of what happens when someone buys the wrong breed for their children.  The good news is that it is possible to find the perfect dog for your family if you know what to look for.

Labrador and golden retrievers are certainly among the best choices for parents.  These dogs are exceptionally gentle with children and are also quite easy to train.  They are well known for getting along well with even small children, and are laid back enough that they do not feel the need to constantly jump on children.  They tend to have an excellent temperament, which makes it easier for the dogs to remain calm even when kids are tugging on their ears or playing a bit rough.

If a large retriever isn’t the dog for you, you may wish to consider a smaller dog such as a pug or a Boston terrier.  These dogs are also quite friendly and have relaxed temperaments.  With smaller dogs, it is important to ensure that your children know how to play with them without hurting them.  The biggest concern, even with the most tolerant breeds is that your child could hurt or frighten the dog.  With the right breed and the right training for both the dog and your kids, adding a new pet to the family can be one of the best choices you ever make.
