How to Surprise Your Dad on Father’s Day Top Gift Ideas

No matter what you opt to go with as a Father’s Day gift this year, your dad is going to tell you he loves it. He may even tell you it’s the best Father’s Day gift he’s ever received. He’s your dad – he has to say things like that. It’s state law. That much being said, although studies have shown the most popular gifts year after year continue to be ties, aftershave and golf equipment, I would venture a guess that they are the most popular because they are the easiest to buy, and not because they are truly what dads around the world truly want.

These popular gifts have actually been given so often they are their own cliché. Instead of going with these old standbys that Dad may or may not really even want, think outside the box this year and surprise him with some truly cool gifts that won’t make him have to lie to you when he opens them. This may mean you have to be a bit of a student of your old man, but in the long run the sweet gifts you’re able to get him because of it will make this Father’s Day one to remember. Here are a few great and relatively inexpensive ways to kick Dad’s present up a notch this year.

1. Brewery Tour

Now depending on where you live in the country, you may have a local brewery close by, or you may have to travel a ways. Either way, most of these tours are free, run an hour or so and end in what is called “The Hospitality Room,” and by hospitality, we’re talking FREE BEER! What better gift than spending time with your dad and getting you both some free beer out of the deal. Not only that, but you get to learn something along the way, like how the beer you’re enjoying was made, and since Dad always encouraged you to never stop learning, he’ll be proud to know you took his advice to heart.

2. Whatever-of-the-Month Clubs

Figure out what your dad likes best, whether it be fishing lures, cigars, bourbons, you name it. Regardless, there are countless of these clubs online which for a nominal fee, they will send your dad a new product within that category every month. Talk about a gift that keeps on giving. If you go this route, your Father’s Day gift will last all year long. Talk about putting Dad’s advice around being smart with your money to good use.

3. Meat

If your dad is a carnivore, a grill master or a combination of the two, pick him up a big package of meats to prepare over a few meals. There are a number of companies out there specializing in this area, or you can simply visit your butcher and piece together the package yourself. In some instances, you may even be able to purchase a whole side of beef. Again, no matter what variety you go with, nothing beats a bunch of meat when the recipient is a carnivore.
