Is Brita or PUR Water Filtration Better?

Home water filtration is common these days.  With reports coming out about the number of trace drugs and other chemicals and illnesses in average tap water supplies, it simply makes sense that people want to make healthier choices.  Of course, the two most popular water filtration systems are PUR and Brita.  The question is which system is actually better.

To know which water filtration system is best, it is important to look at a few things.  For starters, according to Consumer Reports, blind taste tests showed PUR water filters to be the winner.  Studies also show that PUR is the only filter that can remove giardia and cryptosporidium, both of which can make people ill.  Dentists also prefer PUR because it leaves necessary fluoride in water while removing more lead and chlorine than Brita.  It can also remove a number of other things that the Brita water filtration system cannot.

Brita is, however, the faster of the two water filtration systems.  It works through a much less complicated mechanism, which means that it takes less time to offer filtered water.  If you are looking for a system to attach directly to your sink, you will find that the PUR products include attachments that make them nearly universal, while Brita requires you to find the right one for your sink.

None of this is to say that Brita is bad, of course, as it certainly makes your water cleaner and safer than drinking unfiltered tap water, but when it comes down to the facts, PUR is hands down the better water filtration system.
