Do Facial Exercises Really Work?

Facial exercises have been used for centuries in a bid to make the skin firmer and more youthful.  As you age, you may begin to notice that your skin appears droopier, drier and duller.  Working out your facial muscles allows your skin to produce more collagen and have more elasticity, theoretically making it younger-looking.

All muscles in your body require exercise and stretching in order to remain taut and toned.  Millions of people work out every day in order to fight gravity and look better.  The same holds true for facial exercises.  You can engage in certain workouts that will fight droopy skin and provide you with a youthful glow, but working the muscles beneath your skin and increasing -blood flow to the area.

Facial exercises concentrate on smoothing out wrinkles and softening the face.  You can use your pointer fingers to move key areas back and forth for a mini-workout.  Be careful of tugging or pulling on the skin, as this may actually cause wrinkles if you over-stretch your skin. However, the long-term benefits of facial exercises are negligible, and most benefit will come from increasing your circulation through whole-body exercise.  facial muscles do not usually grow much bigger or stringer if ‘worked out’.  If this was the case, then if you talked a lot, you’d expect your jaw and lip muscles to become big and bulky!

Having a refreshed appearance requires you to complement any facial exercises you do with a good skin care regimen.  You need to wash your face on a regular basis, as well as exfoliate it.  Using a good moisturizer and sunscreen is also essential.  The best skin care products you can buy to prevent future wrinkles and sun damage such as age-spots is a good combination moisturizer and sunscreen.  Apply it every day when you wake up after washing your face.  Carry a small pot of it in your bag and re-apply about halfway through the day for maximum benefit.

Also apply a moisturizing product to your face and all over your body straight after drying off from the shower or bath, to ‘lock in’ moisture and plump up your skin – which naturally smooths out wrinkles.

You should consume foods that contain important vitamins and minerals.  Drinking lots of water is also crucial in getting effective results from facial exercises.  For clear skin that looks its best, you should avoid items that have too much sugar, saturated fat and trans fat.  Many vitamin supplements are also available to supply the body with recommended doses of important vitamins.  Your skin needs the right amount of nutrients in order to give you the younger-looking results you are searching for.
