Does Aspirin Prevent Cancer?

Cancer is one of the biggest killers in the United States and around the world, and people today are looking to do whatever they can to help prevent the disease.  There are hundreds of studies that show that common foods such as red wine and fruits and veggies can help prevent cancer.  What about aspirin?

Studies have shown that taking an aspirin daily can actually help prevent a number of different types of cancer, as well as to prevent recurrences for people who have previously had the disease.  A study recently published in "The Lancet," a medical journal, shows that taking one aspirin on a daily basis can reduce your risk of cancer by 20% in a period of 20 years.

With studies like this, it is important to take certain things into account.  For starters, frequent aspirin consumption is linked to certain gastrointestinal conditions, which means that those taking it should certainly consider taking coated aspirin.  The blood thinning qualities of the drug are important for many with heart problems, but for those on blood thinners, your personal daily aspirin usage also needs to be mentioned to your doctor.

Aspirin is an incredibly effective drug, not only for treating pain, but for helping to prevent a variety of medical conditions.  If you are looking to learn more about how aspirin can help reduce your cancer risks and improve your health, speak with your physician.
