Five Tips for Eliminating the Flu

The flu is certainly one of the most frustrating and exhausting illnesses, but it is unfortunately also one of the most common.  When you catch influenza, it is likely that all you want to do is stay in bed and sleep, and this is actually a good remedy.  Today, we will look at five tips to help you beat the flu as quickly as possible.

Eat Properly
When you have the flu, eating multiple meals and ensuring that they have the right ingredients can be hard.  Nobody wants to cook or prepare food when they are sick.  But by eating veggie and vitamin rich foods, you can get well faster.  Send a sympathetic friend or partner out to stock up on store-bought canned soup if you are too ill to cook.  Chicken soup offers nutrients and helps with congestion.  Taking time to eat healthily will help you recover much more quickly.

Take Appropriate Vitamins
Taking vitamins when you have the flu is another way to help boost your health.  Vitamins C & E can be effective, and you will find that adding zinc supplements to your diet can help bolster immune response.  For maximum efficiency, take as soon as you feel the first signs of sickness, and you may even shorten the duration of your symptoms.

Get Some Z’s
Sleep is the easiest thing to do when you have the flu, and it is also the best.  You are contagious, and your body needs to fight off the illness, so call your boss and let them know that you will be staying in bed for a few days.  Better that than have half the office off sick the following week from touching the doors, computer keypads and kitchen sink faucets that you spread your germs all over.

Hydrate
Staying hydrated when you have a runny nose and are sweating from a fever is crucial.  Make certain to drink more water than normal, and add in sports drinks if possible to keep up your blood sugar levels if you are too sick to keep anything down.

Boost the Humidity
Raise the humidity by using a humidifier or taking long hot showers.  This will help to clear your sinus passages, getting the germs out of your system as quickly as possible.
