How Exercise Can Beat Both Stress and Depression

Stress is something that most people are familiar with today.  Depression is also a common problem, though many people do not realize that they suffer from it.  The usual way to treat these conditions is with medication.  However, exercise can be a great way to beat both of them at once and become healthier at the same time.

One way in which exercise can help you here is by making you feel better.  Moderate exercise has been shown to release endorphins, which give you that “feel good” buzz that may alleviate many common disorders from overeating to headaches.  These can ease depression and can go a long way toward reducing stress levels, as well.

Exercise has also been shown to boost immune system function.  This helps your health out enormously, as many chemicals in your body can be eliminated with a healthy immune system.  These chemicals are often responsible for depression and negative feelings.

You will also find that exercise offers some other benefits that are more by-products or results of better fitness.  For instance, those who feel that they are in better shape usually have better self-confidence and make more money.  This can translate directly into lower levels of depression and stress.  Exercise also gives you the means to “blow off steam” in a healthy way.  Rather than reaching for a sugary snack or a bottle of alcohol, exercise lets you work out your stress in a healthy manner that benefits your body, rather than damaging it.

As you can see, there are many ways that exercise can lead to a happier, healthier life and ensure that you do not suffer from undue stress or depression.
