Choosing the Right Personal Trainer to Achieve Your Fitness Goals

Choosing a personal trainer can be one of the best things you do to make sure that you are able to reach your fitness goals.  A personal trainer provides personalized, expert advice on health, nutrition, and exercise while pushing you and encouraging you to be the very best person you can be.

  • Decide your fitness goals
Before you hire the first trainer you find, you will want to make sure that you know how to choose the one that is going to work the best for you.  First, determine your own fitness goals: know if you want to lose weight or build muscle, or both.  This will help you choose a trainer that knows and understands how to help you reach those goals.
  • Plan your budget
You also need to determine where you want to work out.  Some trainers are only able to train in certain gyms or at specific locations.  It is also important that you know how much you are able to spend on the trainer.  The price can vary from around $20 per hour to several hundred per hour.  Spending more doesn’t always guarantee a better trainer.
  • Check for their qualification
Check out some of the trainers in your area by visiting their websites and checking out their training brochures.  If you don’t see mention on their site, ask them if they are certified.  You only want to work with certified trainers because they can provide you with safe types of exercise and stretches.  While checking the certifications, look for CPR training, which is always a plus.
  • Talk to the trainer about your workout needs
Have a meeting with the trainer to see if you get along well and are comfortable with him or her.  See if you can get a free or discounted training session to determine if you can work with the trainer.  Also, ask for references to see the progression of people they’ve helped.
