How to Date When You’re Shy

Before you start thinking that dating is just too intimidating for you, you need to understand that everyone is intimidated by asking someone out.  Being shy does make it worse, but it doesn’t mean you’re hopeless.

Dating is all about finding people you’re compatible with.  So, from the start, if the person you’re thinking about asking out is always the center of attention or likes hanging out at noisy, rowdy bars, you may be barking up the wrong tree.

Being shy shouldn’t discourage you from dating, but it should guide your choices.  Provided that your shyness isn’t because you have a low self-esteem, you may want to find other shy people to go out with.  This isn’t as hard as you think.  Dating almost always starts with flirting which almost always starts with eye contact.

If your shyness is ruining your chances at dating the person you see across the room, here’s a tip.  Watch their eyes when you make contact.  Dating is all about attraction and, when people are attracted to you, they tend to—for a split second—open their eyes very wide and lift their eyebrows a bit.  If you’re going to start dating, you have to learn who to approach and this is a good sign that someone at least thinks you’re cute from a distance.

You’ll have to get over the shyness to start dating as much as you deserve.  Consider hanging out with a socially-bold friend at a local bar, club or restaurant once a week to improve your chances at the dating game.
